Notice to River Users 21 of 2008

Southampton Sports Boat and RIB Show 2008

3 May to 5 May 2008

1. Notice is hereby given that the Southampton Sports Boat and RIB Show will take place at Hamble Point Marina on the River Hamble between 3 May and the 5 May 2008.

2. Restricted Area. To facilitate demonstrations a restricted area has been set aside as the On The Water Events Area in the approach channel to Hamble Point Marina. This area will be marked with six yellow pillar buoys and patrolled by safety boats during periods when active demonstrations are taking place. In the interests of safety, all craft not participating in the event must keep well clear of the restricted area (marked by temporary buoys and vessels). All vessels should proceed with caution and keep a good look out whilst navigating in or near the area of Hamble Point Marina. Vessel completing demonstrations within the controlled restricted area will, on some occasion exceed the 6 knot speed limit and wash limit.

3. Marshall Patrol Boats. Navigation shall be prohibited to all non-event vessels in the restricted area for the duration of each demonstration period when the restricted area becomes active. Safety patrol boats displaying a marshalling flag, will be stationed around the restricted area during periods when demonstration are taking place.

4. The International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (1996) will take precedence over all other considerations at all times. The River Hamble 6 knot speed limit will be strictly enforced at all times. (dispensation will be given to controlled demonstration taking place within the restricted area).

5. The show will increase the volume of traffic in the River Hamble entrance and the immediate area of Hamble Point Marina.   Mariners are advised to keep a good lookout while transiting the area.
