Notice to River Users 27 of 2008

M27 Motorway Bridge Swanwick Bridge Repairs

  1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that work will continue on the M27 motorway bridge at Swanwick until on or about the 31 October 2008.
  2. The works will involve a restriction in the width of the main channel under the bridge which will be denoted by fixed red and green navigation lights.
  3. Sheet piling will be driven around one pillar which will become an underwater obstruction during some states of the tide. The outer edges of the obstruction will be marked with yellow buoys and illuminated warning notices.
  4. The barge may remain alongside the pillars of the bridge overnight and will display relevant lights denoting the main channel.
  5. The piling barge and associated vessels will display the appropriate lights and shapes required by the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collision at Sea.
  6. Mariners are requested to reduce speed and wash while passing the location and obey any instructions issued by the safety vessel.
