Notice to River Users 28 of 2009

Oyster Dredging within Hamble Harbour

  1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that from 2 November 2009 until 28 February 2010 dredging for oysters will commence in the main entrance channels of the Harbour.  During that period up to six local fishing boats are licensed to dredge for oysters within the confines of the Harbour.
  2. Fishing boats dredging for oysters will display the shapes and lights indicating ‘Engaged in fishing’.
  3. All fishing vessels will monitor VHF Channel 68, ‘Hamble Harbour Radio’.
  4. Masters should keep a sharp lookout for fishing vessels from Hamble Point Buoy  to the area up stream of Stone Pier Yard, Warsash.  Masters are reminded that fishing vessels with a dredge deployed are limited in their ability to manoeuvre, especially in confined channels. The International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea apply.
