Funding path improvements

Small Grants Scheme

The Small Grants Scheme assists Parish Councils and landowners in providing better access to countryside paths.

Typical projects are

  • surfacing and drainage work to remedy muddy paths
  • replacing stiles with gates to make paths easier for the elderly and those with pushchairs
  • providing benches for people to rest and enjoy the view
  • establishing volunteer groups to work on local paths
  • producing mapboards or leaflets to encourage people to use local paths

Advice and up to 50% of costs are available (max £5,000) for these and many other projects; priority is given to practical work on rights of way and access land. Extra funding is offered in the New Forest and to Quality Parishes see Funding Conditions). We hope that the scheme will enable you to respond to local requests for improvements and information.

Please browse through the project ideas, the guidance and information on applying. Do contact us for advice if you have a potential project!
