The Equality Act 2010 is the law which bans unfair treatment and helps achieve equal opportunities in the workplace and in wider society. Information about the Act is contained in Equality Act 2010: What do I need to know?: a series of simple guides which set out clearly what the law means for business, the public sector, the voluntary sector and the public. They are designed to help people understand their new responsibilities and rights in the work place and when providing or accessing goods or services.

Research into Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Equality in Adult Learning
The Skills Funding Agency published a report on 19 August 2011 detailing the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender learners in adult education. It shows that there is much to celebrate, with most reporting a positive experience. However, issues still remain. In particular, nearly a third of transgender learners and just under one in six lesbian, gay and bisexual learners reported that they had experienced bullying or harassment in adult learning due to their gender identity or sexual orientation. The report includes recommendations to make the sector more welcoming and inclusive.
