Youth and adult groups
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
The area offers many opportunities within the Award Scheme at all levels. The Brecon Beacons are designated as ‘wild country’ for Gold Award Expeditions and exploration. The Hampshire Mountain Centre Director can advise group leaders on routes and campsites in the area. The centre can also provide a residential base for training activities.
Youth Service
Hampshire Mountain Centre is an ideal venue, away from the distractions of home, for young people to develop their personal and social skills.
Argoed Lwyd and Birchgrove provide safe and comfortable surroundings in which they can experience living with other people, often for the first time. Decisions often have to be made by the group so that everything works smoothly. During these experiences they often learn as much about themselves as they do about others, increasing their confidence and independence.
Adventurous activities are an excellent medium for developing personal confidence and team skills. The individuals are encouraged to help each other through new and challenging activities, such as caving, so that the group succeeds as a whole. In addition specific sessions to develop teamwork through problem solving can be booked.
So, leaders, whether you have an agenda you wish to address or you would like your group to make decisions about their week, Hampshire Mountain Centre is a fabulous place to come. Contact the centre director to discuss ideas for your programme.
