Hampshire Police and Crime Panel

Member Profile - Councillor Goff Beck

New Forest District Council

Cllr Goff Beck

I am a retired but 'young' family man living in Barton-on-Sea.  I served with the Royal Marines for 24 years, thereafter working in the Leisure industry.  My wife Christine and I have three sons and seven grandchildren and through our grandchildren we experience the difficulties faced by parents and carers in bringing up their children in today’s society.

I have previously held the position of portfolio holder for Crime and Disorder at New Forest District Council which involved me working with all the crime and criminal justice agencies.  I believe that I worked very hard at reducing crime and anti-social behaviour and gained considerable knowledge in the work of the police and community safety partnership and the barriers the agencies face when dealing with issues.

I see my role as an elected councillor as helping to change lives for the better for the people I represent.  I gain personal satisfaction from listening to the views of all the local community and then taking those messages to the Councils, the Community Safety Partnership, partner agencies and now to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Panel.

I have a special interest in preventing young people from entering the criminal justice system and I am committed to improving the quality of life for both the young and eldery; including the reduction of crime and anti-social behaviour experienced by people.

My hobbies are walking, charity fundraising, sporting activities, meeting and talking with people.  Christine, my wife, keeps my feet on the ground and constantly reminds me what really matters - happiness and well being - and I will work hard to make that happen for our community.
