Member Profile - Councillor Ferris Cowper
East Hampshire District Council
I am Leader of East Hampshire District Council and a County Councillor with Hampshire. I have had an extensive career in manufacturing industry including holding the posts of European Director for Mars, Incorporated, (the snackfood and petcare multinational), MD of Paula Rosa Kitchens and Non-Executive Chairman of FWP Matthews Ltd., (a medium sized flour milling company), as well as other non-executive appointments.
Whilst I was at Mars, Incorporated, I met with a director and an Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and as a result was engaged by Sir John Stevens, (now Baron Stevens of Kirkwhelpington), the Commissioner of the Metropolis, to work as a facilitator to the Metropolitan Police Policy Board for two years.
I carried out additional assignments with Cambridgeshire Constabulary and also with the Met., working with AC Tarique Ghaffur. I led a development workshop to formulate an approach to the Crime and Disorder Strategy for the London Borough of Sutton. I played a leading role in the development of “New Challenges New Thinking – A Manifesto for Policing London” which was part of the Met’s response to the findings of the Lawrence Inquiry.
