Local authorities play a leadership role in achieving a rich and diverse natural environment. They are key partners in shaping sustainable communities for the future.
The Biodiversity Duty encourages local authorities to maximise opportunities for conserving and enhancing the environment.
This can be achieved through strategy and policy development, land-use planning, management of land, provision of parks and greenspaces and many other services.
We all have a vital role to play to help biodiversity. Many of the choices that we make everyday - what we buy, how we travel, how we use water and energy, how we garden and what we throw away - have a huge impact on our environment.
