DVD review – Failure to launch

At 35, Tripp (Matthew McConaughey) has a great life. He’s good-looking, successful and much too busy having fun to settle down. Oh, and he still lives at home. In a desperate attempt to get him out of the nest, his parents hire Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker), a professional ‘interventionist’, who guarantees that she will be able to lure Tripp into independent living. But things soon go off course as Paula realises that Tripp is not her average assignment….
There are several fine moments of random slapstick and some sharp banter between the two leads, boosted by a lively soundtrack and likeable performances from the supporting cast.
Director Tom Dey keeps the action moving briskly and the overall tone light-hearted. If it’s an easygoing romantic comedy you’re after to go with Friday night’s bottle of wine, then this could well be for you.
