Hampshire Now - your County Council magazine

From the Leader

Ken Thornbar, Leader of Hampshire County Council

With winter at a close, spring is here and we welcome brighter days and the transformation of Hampshire’s beautiful countryside and its array of wildlife.

Springtime’s new beginnings bring new challenges however, and this spring will inevitably continue to see our strengths tested in how, with less funding from government, we protect the delivery of our quality services. While we’ve already begun laying the ground work,we’ll have important decisions ahead about how we operate and serve residents in future. In spite of the government cuts, Hampshire's council tax won’t increase for 2011/12.

This edition of Hampshire Now explores how council tax contributions are helping us to continue to provide more with less. Did you know your local library is branching out? Whether you’re picking up a book or DVD, or enjoying a coffee and free Wi-Fi, find out what your local library can now offer.

Thinking of a fresh start this spring? 'Ask the expert’ has advice on becoming an entrepreneur and how the County Council can help you to set up your own business.

Meanwhile, if you’d like to explore the outdoors this spring, find out more about the history of one of Hampshire’s most stunning country parks and we invite you to discover Hamble by foot.
