Hampshire Now - your County Council magazine

From the Leader

Ken Thornber, Leader of Hampshire County Council

A very warm welcome to this latest edition of Hampshire Now, which is packed with news and information about County Council services. As I am sure you are aware we face tough times ahead and, like so many others, we have to adapt to the challenges of reduced budgets and resources. All public sector organisations are having to plan for a downturn in spending but we are in a stronger position than most.

Hampshire Now is one of the ways we can demonstrate how we are still very much open for business! Talking of being open for business, in this edition you can see how we are supporting independent retailers to provide locally run shops for residents and visitors alike.

You will also find the usual favourites, such as the Walk which, this time, is around Hound near Royal Victoria Country Park, and the History article which is a fascinating account of how Staunton Country Park became the diverse attraction it is today. Make sure you stay safe and dry with our advice on flooding in ‘Ask the expert’.
