Hampshire's outdoor classrooms

Hampshire County Council’s outdoor centres provide a wide variety of adventures and learning experiences - everything from abseiling to orienteering and badgerwatching to disaster recovery!

Here’s a flavour of just two of them…

Runway’s End Outdoor Centre

Choose your challenge

Runway’s End is a brand new outdoor centre, offering exciting activities such as abseiling, canoeing and caving. It also boasts an indoor multi-activity hall for archery, air rifle shooting, climbing and bouldering. There are 11 campsites of different sizes and indoor accommodation with bathroom and kitchen facilities.

Learn from the experts

With space for 200 campers and 48 people sleeping indoors, Runway’s End is a lively but safe place. There are fully trained, experienced instructors to lead the way and teach new skills and top-quality safety equipment for all activities.

Create your own adventure

Groups can also choose to hire the activity facilities and bring their own instructors, provided they are suitably qualified, pre-approved and provide their own equipment. Contact Runway’s End on

Stubbington Study Centre

Nature’s classroom by the sea, Stubbington Study Centre, includes a conservation area, seven ponds, a large playing area and two hides for watching badgers and birds. There’s even a replica earthquake site for exciting team challenges.

Learning brought to life

Schools are the keenest visitors. Young people enjoy Stubbington’s wide range of environmental, cultural and adventurous activities, that fit perfectly into Key Stage 2 classroom learning. Some children experience their first stay away from home in Stubbington’s friendly residential accommodation, which sleeps more than 100 people.

Away days and group holidays

It’s not only schools that enjoy this unique coastal adventure. There are conference facilities available for day events, selfcatering accommodation for community groups to use during weekends and school holidays and there’s easy access to the sea.

New facilities coming soon

Stubbington’s accommodation is soon to be modernised, with improved sleeping areas and bathroom facilities. The new buildings will have a lower carbon footprint and will also offer improved access for disabled people.
