From the Leader

Councillor Perry

Welcome from Councillor Roy Perry, Leader of Hampshire County Council

Welcome to our summer edition of Hampshire Now - my first edition as the newly elected Leader of Hampshire County Council. I said in my acceptance speech to the County Council that I want all communities to be proud and happy to live in Hampshire. The County Council has a responsibility to help in sustaining and enhancing the prosperity of Hampshire people but we must balance that by using such powers we have in sustaining the quality of the environment we all enjoy. We cannot do this alone and must work collaboratively with district councils and other public services as well as the voluntary sector and residents for the benefit of all communities in Hampshire. This edition of Hampshire Now has articles which reflect these aims.

You can find out how we are investing in children’s care services and working with our partners to support Hampshire’s troubled families. ‘Ask the expert’ is about the new Dementia Advisor Service and ‘Hampshire community focus’ highlights the invaluable work carried out by volunteers in our local museums. We also celebrate the positive contribution made by young people in their local communities.

We are all fortunate to live in this great county of Hampshire and I hope you will learn much from this and future editions of the work of the County Council to help you and other residents.
