What is the Hampshire Own Grown Future Leaders Programme?
The Future Leaders programme is designed to develop participants as defined in Summary role profile and person specification.
Each of the modules will use a variety of theory, case histories, current issues and models complemented by practical skills to assist in the development of new skills and experiences. For example as part of the modules a participant can expect to acquire:
An increase in self awareness and confidence working with others; understanding how to work effectively with how to have a positive impact through exploring Emotional Intelligence
An in depth understanding of what leadership is, approaches to leadership, skills required to effectively lead and opportunities to apply leadership techniques learnt in challenging circumstances
A broader political awareness and understanding of how Hampshire County Council operates and explore the potential to influence future decision making.
A strategic awareness and an understanding of the differences between strategic and operational thinking and working. An opportunity to use tools and techniques to assist in the development of strategy and applying business transformation techniques to real and relevant case studies/ scenarios.
What Does It Lead To?
So what will the programme lead to and how will it assist in my development?
The programme is not a fast track initiative or a promise of promotion and it doesn’t entitle the participant to a salary increase.
What it will do is:
- Increase participants skills, knowledge and confidence with Management and Leadership
- Increase understanding of Emotional Intelligence and the benefits to using it in all aspects of life and withing the work environment (negotiating, influencing colleagues, peers and senior, conflict management and effective communication).
- Develop within the participant, a deeper understanding of local government, the roles of Members/ Councillors, challenges within the current political system, effective working as an Officer/Member.
- Demonstrate the benefits of Business Transformation – assist in planning and thinking process, so as to trandform teams and services and support staff to deliver services effectively and effeciently.
- Ensure every participant receives recognition – they will have been identified via the nomination process as an individual with potential within their department. Hampshire Own Grown will give the opportunity to further raise people within the organisation by way of projects, assignments, speakers, networking and mentoring.
- Complement every participants development plan (IPP) to ensure links with career aspirations and required development needs.
Who Can Apply?
Participants should be able to demonstrate the following:
- Working within the organisation at a senior level (H/I grade )
- At least one year within Hampshire County Council
- Has achieved consistent good/excellent rating as part of PDR/IPP process and achieved all targets set
- An in depth knowledge of the current key issues across the department and an awareness of challenges facing the department in the future (next 5-10 years)
