Websites entered in this category are expected to meet the needs of their audience irrespective of their technological or physical limitations. One of the key criteria in this category will be ease of use via access software.

Best Interactive Website
This award is open to any organisation. We will be looking for interactive websites that are easy to use whether buying online, referencing and downloading information, or for entertainment.

Best Community or Voluntary Organisation Website
This award recognises the achievements of the community and voluntary sectors. Judges will be looking for sites which offer comprehensive information to the public on the services that are provided. They will also be keen to see good information on how to get involved in the local community.

Best Rural Enterprise Website
To win this award, a website should promote the rural community of Hampshire or the Isle of Wight. The websites should contribute to the economic well being of the countryside and promote rural issues.

Hampshire County Council would like to thank Hampshire Fare for sponsoring the Best Rural Enterprise Website.
Best Public Internet Access Point
This award recognises the efforts made by organisations that offer Internet access to the public. This may take the form of internet cafes, village halls, libraries and community centres as well as organisations which offer support to groups such as the over-60's to get the most out of the Internet.

Hampshire County Council would like to thank ESRI for sponsoring the Best Public Internet Access Point.

Best Public Service Website
The public sector award is available to district councils, emergency services, health authorities and other public sector organisations. The winning website should help Hampshire and Isle of Wight residents get the most from their local services.

Best Recreation and Tourism Website
This award is devoted to websites which attract tourism and promote leisure activities to Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
This is a NEW award and consequently there is no corresponding winner from last year. Will your website be the first winner of the Best Recreation and Tourism Website Award?

Best School Website
School websites should meet the needs of all those involved in the school community including pupils, parents, teachers and governors. There should be evidence of children's involvement. The level of resources available to individual schools will be taken into account

Best Small Business Website
This award is available to the website of any local business, employing a maximum of 250 employees. The site should be clear and easy to use, promote your business and act as a valuable resource for your customers. The site should be the flagship of a forward planning communications initiative for the company.

Best Special Interest Website
The special interest category covers web projects which fall outside of the other categories. These websites can cover a multitude of hobbies, societies and clubs and can literally apply to almost anything, from philately in Fareham to local music in Lock's Heath, from numerologists in Newport to paintballers from Portsmouth, from cinema societies in Southampton to authors in Andover. All we ask is that any societies or clubs represented are open to all members of the public and that they are based in Hampshire or the Isle of Wight.

This award is sponsored by Hampshire County Council.
Best Town or Parish Council Website
The town or parish council category will be judged on the range and quality of information made available to the local community. We are especially keen to see evidence of regular community involvement in the upkeep of the website.

Best Young People's Website
To win an award in this category, a website should show initiative and involvement in the local community. These websites should be run by young people for young people. The target audience must be under 25 years old.

The Microsoft Award for Growth Through IT
Microsoft, the main sponsor of the Hantsweb Awards, will be giving this one-off prize to the entrant that they believe has the greatest potential to grow and expand through enhancing their technology. A Press Release about this award is available.
