Hampshire's Pothole Busters fill 12 tennis courts' worth of holes!
Hampshire County Council’s Pothole Busters have so far rid roads of an extra 10,000 potholes and defects in a boost to the backlog of repairs needed to deal with the effects of bad weather and heavier traffic on the highways. That’s an area of over 8,000m² - the equivalent of 12 tennis courts!
You can report a pothole by calling Hantsdirect on 0845 6035633 and report faults through the County Council’s contact centre Hantsdirect, which are then followed up through special inspections.
Work began in September and will continue over the coming months following a decision by the County Council’s cabinet to put an extra £1million into tackling potholes across Hampshire.
The Pothole Busters work is in addition to the £56million being spent this year on looking after nearly 6,000 miles of Hampshire’s roads, and is being carried out by Amey, the County Council’s highways maintenance contractor.
Pothole Busters gangs continue to work on potholes and highways defects across the county. Using a combination of specialist patching techniques such as infra red and jet patching, and traditional patching, they are working their way across Hampshire.
Each year the County Council carries out systematic highway inspections and a series of surveys into the condition of the roads and pavements throughout Hampshire. This helps decide how to prioritise repairs.
