Healthy Schools in Hampshire exceed national targets
25 June 2009
399 of Hampshire County Council’s schools have been awarded the healthy School Enhanced status and a further 129 schools are working towards the award, which is already above the 75% expected nationally by the end of the year.
This achievement will be celebrated at The Great Hall, Winchester on 30 June when John Coughlan, Director of Children’s Services, will be there to congratulate individual schools and present their award in recognition of their achievement in improving the health and well-being of their school community. Twenty eight schools will be represented at The Great Hall, Winchester, and receive their certificates and plaques. A further 22 have also attained the standard but will not be attending this time.
In order to achieve the Healthy Schools standard, schools have to demonstrate a whole school approach to improving their leadership, policies, curriculum planning, teaching and learning, school culture and environment, giving pupils a voice, provision of pupil support services, staff development needs and health, partnership with parents and the local community, and assessing and recording pupils’ achievements.
In addition, Healthy Schools are expected to improve in the areas of Healthy eating, Physical activity, PSHE and Emotional health and well-being. Healthy Schools’ activities must involve pupils, all staff and the wider community.
