Making money matter in Hampshire
29 June 2009
A new drive to increase consumer and money advice for people with learning disabilities is being launched by Hampshire County Council to coincide with national ‘My Money Week’ from 29 June to 5 July.
It’s a joint initiative between the County Council’s Adults Services and Trading Standards and includes a DVD and booklet for people with learning disabilities, giving useful hints and tips about looking after money.
My Money Week
'My Money Week' is bringing schools and their local communities together to learn more about managing money in a practical and relevant way. Hampshire County Council has produced a video and booklet containing consumer advice, tips on managing a budget and how to avoid the pitfalls of debt.
The video features topics such as shopping, handling doorstep salespeople and managing credit cards. Presented by Georgie Palmer, it is a light hearted guide on subjects that consumers can fall foul of. Guidance notes are provided so it can be used as an educational tool within special schools across Hampshire.
The booklet covers all of the subjects featured in the video in greater detail and has been designed to assist those supporting people with learning disabilities whilst including concise easy to read summaries for self reference. The booklet also acts as a resource to helpful links and places to go for more information on the issues raised within it.
Copies of the DVD and the booklet are available free of charge by contacting Tim Ward of Hampshire County Council Trading Standards
