Festival of British Archaeology comes to Hampshire

Hampshire County Council is celebrating the national Festival of British Archaeology by putting on a fun packed series of events between Saturday 18 July and Sunday 2 August.

To encourage people to get involved with archaeology the Council has organised a range of activities, from Identification Days, where Hampshire’s experts can help identify your finds, to hands-on workshops at several museums and sites across the county.

TV archaeologist Julian Richards from BBC Two’s Meet the Ancestors, will also be visiting Hampshire to give a talk on Stonehenge and the story so far. Privileged to have been part of the team that dug at Stonehenge last year, Julian will use his 30 years’ experience of Stonehenge and the surrounding landscape to bring this iconic and fascinating site to life. (29 July at Alton Assembly Rooms, tickets are available from the Curtis Museum at £4 each)

The events are aimed at all ages to enjoy, so whether you are a keen enthusiast or still at school and have an interest in this fascinating subject, see what’s on in your area.
