A326 - Leader pledges action

Councillor Ken Thornber, Leader of the County Council says "We do our very best to make our roads safer and road deaths have fallen considerably across the county following the measures we have been putting in place. Unfortunately we will never be in a position where we can prevent all deaths or serious injury on our roads, and it is deeply regrettable that Tim Reynolds recently lost his life in a tragic accident on the A326."

"Tuesday night’s meeting was extremely useful and I will be instructing officers to look at the lighting straight away and investigate installing traffic lights. Because of the budget available we can not do everything immediately and I cannot promise there will never be another road accident, injury or fatality, but we will look at what other measures could be taken such as improving visibility, upgrading some of the signs, repairing and/or reinstating cats eyes, extending hatching on the A326 approaches to Twiggs Lane, enhancing pedestrian islands, road markings and anti skid surfacing and reducing speed limits. There are things that can be done and will be done."
