County Council lends support to Mental Health Association

Friday, 15 June 2012

Efforts to support residents with mental health problems will benefit from funding from Hampshire County Council.

At his Decision Day (13 June 2012), Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Ken Thornber, awarded funding of £2,500 to the Camberley District Open Mind Association. Half of the group's catchment area and service users are based in Hampshire, in the Farnborough area.

The organisation plans to use the grant for the Open Mind Club, which is a day centre, open three days a week, for people with mental health issues. The club provides social contact with others and also aims to improve the self confidence of individuals by taking part in group activities.

Councillor Thornber, said:

"The Open Mind Club provides a great support system for people who suffer with mental health problems in Hampshire. It gives people the opportunity to socialise, take part in activities with the wider community, and its work will enable people to feel less anxious and more secure within themselves."
