National recognition for Hampshire County Council's commitment to keep Hampshire moving

Hampshire County Council is one of four authorities in the running for the National Transport Awards for 'Transport County of the Year'.

Winners announced in October

The shortlist was announced this week, and the winners will be announced in October. The awards recognise the successes that have been achieved on local transport projects, and the shortlisted projects have shown the judges the tangible results that have been achieved, improving the experience for transport users.

Also shortlisted in two other categories

Hampshire County Council is also shortlisted in two other categories: Transport Partnership Award for its work with First Hampshire and Dorset on the Eclipse BRT Phase 1 route in Gosport, and Employee of the Year in which School Crossing Patrol Officer Sylvia Rosewarn, who has worked with the children of Orchard Lea Infant School in Fareham for 35 years, has been shortlisted.

Councillor Mel Kendal, Executive Member for Environment and Transport at Hampshire County Council said:

"Keeping Hampshire moving is a priority for Hampshire County Council. The importance to quality of life and the economic prospects of Hampshire of being able to travel around for work, for school, or for leisure, cannot be underestimated. I am delighted that some of our work devoted to improving this - from successful partnership working to the dedication of individuals - has been recognised by the National Transport Awards."

Marc Reddy, Regional Commercial and Business Growth Director for First in the South West and Wales, said:

"We are thrilled to be shortlisted with Hampshire County Council for a National Transport Award. This recognises the work that we have done together to deliver the Eclipse BRT for the benefit of residents in South Hampshire. The Eclipse service has been successful since day one, with many people using the buses and being impressed with all the service has to offer them. We think it is only fitting that it is recognised in this way and we hope that we win the award when the results are announced in October."

Sylvia Rosewarn said:

" I am absolutely amazed, but delighted, to be nominated for the Frontline Employee of the Year award."
