Operation Resilience moves to Roger Penny Way

An eight-week programme to upgrade a section of Roger Penny Way, Bramshaw is set to start on 15 October. The work is part of Hampshire County Council's planned structural maintenance programme 'Operation Resilience', a long-term project making Hampshire's road network more resilient to extreme weather and increasing traffic.

Now in its second year, Operation Resilience is continuing to target 350 separate sites on roads and pavements throughout the county. The programme, which has a budget of £17 million for 2012/13, is a long-term investment that represents a shift away from reactive to planned maintenance, an approach which is not only more cost effective but also ensures that roads remain in good condition for longer.

Improved surface

The road surface of Roger Penny Way (B3078) at the junction with the B3079 has become very uneven and the concrete blocks at the edge of the road have started to become displaced. Routine repairs have been undertaken when required in the past, but the road has now reached a stage where more extensive planned maintenance works are required. When the works are complete road users will experience a much improved surface.

In order to finish the works as quickly and safely as possible the section of road from the B3079 junction westwards to Old Roundhill will be closed for the duration of the works but access for local residents will be unaffected. A signed diversion route will be in operation for all other traffic via the A31, A338 and B3078.

Councillor Mel Kendal, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Environment and Transport, said:

"Hampshire's road network is vital for our local economy. The work to Roger Penny Way is part of our commitment to improve Hampshire's roads so they are more resilient to extreme weather and increasing traffic and represent good value for money for all road users. We appreciate works of this nature will cause some delay to road users but would ask for your patience and understanding."
