New role drives Hampshire's economic prosperity

David Fletcher has joined Hampshire County Council as Assistant Director for Economic Development.
Formerly Director of Business Investment for Creative Sheffield, David will lead on key areas including inward investment, tourism, regeneration and enterprise. Prior to spending 10 years in economic development in Sheffield, David fulfilled senior business development roles in the property and construction sector with Wimpey and HBG (now BAM).
Future potential for Hampshire's economy
Councillor Ray Ellis, Executive Member for Economic Development for Hampshire County Council, commented,
"David Fletcher brings a wealth of both private and public sector experience to the organisation and is well placed to bring a clear direction and impetus to our efforts to develop Hampshire's economy.
"Hampshire has enormous potential, with a diverse £35bn economy, excellent transport links to London and Heathrow as well as a high level of knowledge-based activity. Global companies with major operations in Hampshire include IBM, AXA, Barclays, Boeing, Fujitsu, Motorola, BAE Systems, Zurich and Lockheed Martin. Hampshire also offers an outstanding quality of life, including two National Parks.
Strong collaborative approach
"One of our key objectives is to develop a strong collaborative approach with all stakeholders in the Hampshire economic development arena, including the Solent and Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs), city and district councils and the private sector. It will also be to foster partnership working with our neighbouring counties, unitaries and LEPs in the Greater Wessex area (Isle of Wight, Dorset, Wiltshire, West Berkshire, Surrey and West Sussex."
