Making a Difference in Hampshire - Nominations invited for the County Council Chairman's Award

The search is on to find youngsters from across Hampshire who, through their own exceptional efforts are helping to make a positive difference in their local community, by being active, good citizens.

The 'Hampshire Making a Difference Award' will be presented by the Chairman of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Andrew Joy to pay tribute to the young person or group or young people, aged between five and 18, who have done something exceptional to help others.

It could be anything; from helping a sick relative, neighbour or friend over a period of time, or supporting a local charity or long term project, to helping older people in the community, or showing an act of bravery. The list is endless.

The Award is designed to complement the current active citizenship opportunities and will support the promotion of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development within school and will be underpinned by the Rights, Respect and Responsibilities agenda within Hampshire.

Nominations are being sought for the awards and entries should be submitted by 31 January 2013. Applications can be submitted online or forms can be collected from Hampshire County Council museums and libraries.

A panel of judges will decide on the successful nominees who will be invited to attend a special presentation in the Summer Term, where they will be awarded a certificate and letter of congratulations from the County Council Chairman.

Councillor Joy said: "We have some wonderful young people in Hampshire, some of whom may already be making a positive difference to their local community, but their work may often go unnoticed. This Award is an opportunity to recognise examples of exceptional active citizenship, thank these youngsters for making the county an even better place to live, and is part of a wider initiative to recognise exceptional volunteer efforts which contribute to the quality of life in Hampshire's communities."
