Tea is served
Tuesday, 19 November 2013
From this week Hampshire County Council's Meals on Wheels will be adding a new afternoon tea service to the menu to complement the daily hot lunches now served everywhere across the county.
The new afternoon tea service from apetito will include a savoury pastry, a sandwich, a piece of cake plus a serving of fruit and a juice drink, will cost £3.50 per day, and will be delivered straight to the a person's door.
Since the launch of the new county-wide Meals on Wheels service earlier this year, more people are able to take advantage of a nutritious, two course hot meal in the middle of the day. This, and the addition of the volunteer Food & Friendship Meals Support Service which is providing vital social contact, is helping many older people to remain living independently in their own homes for longer.
Cllr Liz Fairhurst, Executive Member for Adult Social Care, said "We recognise the crucial role that good nutrition plays in helping people stay healthy and independent and I am very pleased that the service is proving popular with so many of Hampshire's older residents. With over 4,500 hot meals served each week, the new tea service is something we know that many of our older people will welcome, ensuring they have access to good quality, nutritionally-balanced food throughout the day. As a County Council, we want to continue supporting people in their own homes in every way we can."
