Completion of a six month scheme to expand Bramley Church of England Primary School in Tadley has been marked with an official opening ceremony at the school.
Hampshire County Council's Executive Member for Education, Councillor Peter Edgar, joined interim head teacher, Lyn Downes, and Chair of Governors, Nicky Parker and the Reverend Arthur Botham, Area Dean of Basingstoke in a ribbon cutting ceremony to formally open the new building, cheered on by staff and pupils.
During the celebrations guests were given a tour of the new facilities that include five new classrooms and an extension to the existing assembly hall. The school is expanding by 105 places to accommodate a rising local population and new housing nearby.
Councillor Edgar commented: "I was very pleased to be invited to officially open the new facilities at this school. The £1.67 million investment we have made to transform and expand this school will ensure that local need for school places in the coming years can be met easily. Across the county, we are ensuring 8000 additional primary school places will be available, in areas of high demand, with a planned investment of £165 million.
He continued: "Our objective is to deliver quality education locally, that is to say, near to where children live and where parents want them to go to school. It is good to see how we are adapting Hampshire's existing education facilities to meet the need for places and to see that these schools are benefiting from the work of our exceptional architects. The quality of accommodation is excellent and I would like to congratulate the County Council's strategic planning and design teams who have ensured the work here at Bramley was completed on time and on budget. We are also enormously grateful for the valuable contribution made by the school community."
Chair of Governors, Nicky Parker added: "My thanks to the construction team for creating such a great space for us. We are rightly very proud of our lovely new facilities. I am also very grateful to the Local Authority for funding and supporting us with this project, and parents for their patience during the build."
