Hampshire County Council provides funding boost to Eastleigh Youth and Community Trust

Eastleigh Youth and Community Trust is £173,280 closer towards building a new annexe, thanks to Hampshire County Council.
Councillor Keith Chapman, Hampshire County Council's Executive Member for Culture, Recreation and Countryside, awarded the grant from the Community Buildings and Capital Fund 2013/14 at his decision day on Thursday 6 March 2014.
Partnership funding from the Community Buildings and Capital Fund enables the voluntary and community sector to maintain the quality of Hampshire's village halls and Community Association buildings. This finance enables improvements to be made to those buildings and can assist with the development of new facilities where appropriate.
Recognising the value of these facilities for local communities, a year ago the County Council decided to set aside an additional £1 million to support some major community building projects. This is a one-off fund and it generated a lot of interest from local community groups who were invited to submit an Expression of Interest for a grant of up to £200,000. Of these, six have been awarded grants of varying amounts up to £200,000.
Eastleigh Youth and Community Trust is based in The Pavilion on The Park, in Kingfisher Road, Eastleigh. The total cost of the organisation's annexe project is more than £642,000.
The money from Hampshire County Council will help towards the building of the annexe to the main building with a hall, meeting rooms and community café and patio area which can be used by groups and individuals for a range of indoor and outdoor activities.
The Trust aims to bridge the gap between generations and communities within the local area. It delivers inclusive activities focused on children, young people and their families, together with the wider local population and there is substantial provision for disabled people.
This project is expected to benefit 3,000 in the Eastleigh area.
Cllr Chapman said: "I was impressed with what I saw when I went to visit Eastleigh Youth and Community Trust. I hope that this money will help to move this worthy project along."
Jim Vaughan, Chairman of Eastleigh Youth and Community Trust, added: "Eastleigh Youth and Community Trust are very grateful for Hampshire County Council's support, which will enable us to commence building this community facility during 2014."
