Ampfield Wood Valley

Ampfield Wood

To the far side of the pond a gentle slope leads to Ampfield Woodland.

The woodland here was once a dense forest plantation of mostly Douglas fir grown for timber. This area has been thinned and is being developed into a “woodland of the world”. Ampfield Woods is now home to various trees native to North America, Japan and Europe including rare mountain ash and white beam.

Our woodland pigs reside in Ampfield Woods and are very popular with children and adults alike. The delightful saddleback pigs, on loan from Manor Farm, help to clear the scrubland as we prepare to replant areas of Ampfield Woodland with more trees. The pigs are not always in residence, so make sure to ask on your way into the Gardens.
