Growing Plants – Key Stage 1

A day’s programme does not necessarily include all the listed activities and can be adapted to suit individual needs and requirements. Normally we fit in five activities during your visit.

Activities Learning objective: the children should learn...
Seed dynamics
  • about the life-cycle of a plant through drama.
Seed survival
  • about the life-cycle of a seed by playing an interactive game.
Bud hunt
  • to make careful observations about the changes occurring to plants in the spring.
Bee game
  • about the role of the bee in pollination.
Mirrors
  • to appreciate the world above their heads.
Colour palettes
  • to look carefully at the colours found on the parts of a variety of plants.
Colour filters
  • to see the Gardens from different coloured viewpoints.
Colour sticky strips
  • about the range of different coloured and textured materials found in Gardens by creating an individual coloured strip.
Leaf match
  • to observe carefully the wide range of leaves in the Gardens (shape, colour and texture)..
Touch eggs
  • to appreciate the different textures and patterns of nature.


 

Sessions times

  • 10am to 2.30pm
    with a break for a picnic lunch at 12pm in or near the Education Centre
