Senses – Foundation Stage

A day’s programme does not necessarily include all the listed activities and can be adapted to suit individual needs and requirements. Normally we fit in 3 - 5 activities during your visit.

Activities Learning objective: the children should learn...
Colour palettes
  • that plants change throughout the seasons.
Colour filters
  • to see the Gardens from different coloured viewpoints.
Leaf sort
  • to appreciate the variety of different colours of leaves as they change in the autumn.
Leaf match
  • to observe carefully the wide range of leaves in the Gardens (shape, colour and texture).
Un-nature trail
  • a greater understanding of camouflage whilst hunting for hidden objects in the natural environment.
Meet a tree
  • to use their available senses to identify a tree. N.B this is a blind fold game of trust.
Caterpillar trail
  • about the life-cycle of a butterfly through role play N.B this is a blind fold game of trust.
Touch eggs
  • to appreciate the different textures and patterns found in nature.
Texture cards
  • that there are a variety of textures to be found in the natural environment..
Shape cards
  • that there are a variety of shapes to be found in the natural environment.
Colour sticky strips
  • about the range of different coloured and textured materials found in the Gardens by creating an individual coloured strip.
Smelly sticky strips
  • about the range of different smells found in the Gardens by creating an individual smelly strip.
Smelly socks
  • to observe smells out in the garden and express their likes and dislikes.
Listening game
  • identify different sounds and the direction they are coming from.
Blindfold partner game
  • to listen to and follow directions without the sense of sight.


 

Sessions times

  • Pre-school 10am -12pm
    You are welcome to stay for lunch
  • Reception 10am to 2.30pm
    with a break for a picnic lunch at 12pm in or near the Education Centre
