Variation – Key Stage 1

A day’s programme does not necessarily include all the listed activities and can be adapted to suit individual needs and requirements. Normally we fit in five activities during your visit.

Activity Learning objective: the children should learn...
Leaf match
  • to observe carefully the wide range of leaves in the Gardens (shape, colour and texture).
Bud hunt
  • to make careful observations about the changes occurring to plants in the spring.
Un-nature trail
  • a greater understanding of camouflage whilst hunting for hidden objects in the natural environment.
Minibeast hunt
  • to identify the variety of minibeasts found in different habitats.
Colour palettes
  • to look carefully at the colours found on the parts of a variety of plants.
Pond dipping
  • to identify the variety of aquatic life found in ponds.
Colour sticky strips
  • about the range of different coloured and textured materials found in Gardens by creating an individual coloured strip.
Texture cards
  • that there are a variety of textures to be found in the natural environment.
Shape cards
  • that there are a variety of shapes to be found in the natural environment.
Leaf sort
  • to appreciate the variety of different colours of leaves as they change in the autumn.


 

Sessions times

  • 10am to 2.30pm
    with a break for a picnic lunch at 12pm in or near the Education Centre

Suggested Pre-visit activities

  • Look at the similarities and difference of pupils in the class
  • Sort a variety of pictures into animals and plants
