Fire pension schemes - deferred members

Deferred FPS benefits

Your pension benefits became deferred when you left the Firefighters' Pension Scheme. Their value is index linked.

  • Your deferred benefits will normally be payable at age 60.

  • Your deferred pension may be paid from any age on ill health grounds.

  • You may be able to transfer the benefits to another pension scheme. Please approach your new pension provider to investigate this.

  • We will send you a deferred benefit statement each year - please write to us if you change address.

Re-engaging as firefighter

If you re-engage as a firefighter you will be enrolled into the New Firefighters' Pension Scheme. You could choose to transfer your benefits from the Firefighters' Pension Scheme to your new pensionable service.

If you would like to combine your benefits contact Pensions Services if you have rejoined Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority, otherwise contact your new employer.

Paying your pension

Please contact us three months before your deferred pension benefits are due to be paid.

 

Deferred NFPS benefits

Your pension benefits became deferred when you left the New Firefighters' Pension Scheme. Their value is index linked.

  • Your deferred benefits will normally be payable at age 65.

  • You can ask your authority to pay your deferred benefits from age 55, however they would be reduced for early payment.

  • Your deferred pension may be paid from any age on ill health grounds.

  • You may be able to transfer the benefits to another pension scheme. Please approach your new pension provider to investigate this.

  • We will send you a deferred benefit statement each year - please write to us if you change address.

Re-engaging as firefighter

If you re-engage as a firefighter you will be enrolled into the New Firefighters' Pension Scheme. You could choose to combine your deferred benefits with your new pensionable service.
