Winchester Cathedral and music from Europe
Winchester Cathedral will see the culmination of two major choral projects exploring European vocal music and its world-wide influences.
The first will see the premiere of ‘Song of the Earth’. The second will see a performance of the popular ‘Zimbe’, allowing us to compare the European and African choral traditions.
The value of singing is a key component of this project, as well as collaboration between very diverse groups of young people and adults. It will also explore essential themes of humanity, and the vibrant world of fusion music.
Schools around Winchester, area, county, university and community choirs will rehearse individually and then join together in a remarkable partnership to celebrate the great choral traditions. Skilled choral experts will prepare the different groups, with the final events supported by professional performers.
The big event at Winchester Cathedral
Two exceptional evenings of choral music, performed by over thirty local groups of young singers, community musicians and instrumentalists took place.
