Cabling guidelines for schools
This document details the minimum standards we recommend for cabling in schools.
It is important to ensure network data cabling is installed and maintained according to these guidelines as damaged data cabling can cause a network to run slowly. Cat 5e and Cat 6 cables are designed to greatly reduce interference by twisting the wires together in a particular way. If this twisting becomes disrupted, interference can occur, causing devices on the network to retransmit data. This constant retransmission of data is invisible to the user but obviously results in a network that appears to be much slower than it should be.
