Your ICT strategy


A school's ICT strategy isn't an abstract set of theories: it's a realistic and concrete plan for understanding and meeting a school's technology needs.

These needs are often defined by the school's strategic priorities, and so you need to design ICT systems and processes that support those priorities. Put bluntly: if you buy technology before thoroughly analysing what it will be used for, you could be wasting money.

How will ICT support the strategic aims of the school?

Leadership and management

  1. Develop and communicate a shared vision for ICT.
  2. Plan a sustainable ICT strategy.

Curriculum

  1. Plan and lead a broad and balanced ICT curriculum.
  2. Review and update the curriculum in the light of developments in technology and practice.
  3. Ensure pupils’ ICT experiences are progressive, coherent, balanced and consistent.

Learning and teaching

  1. Plan the use of ICT to enhance learning and teaching.
  2. Meet pupils’ expectations for the use of ICT.
  3. Encourage teachers to work collaboratively in identifying and evaluating the impact of ICT on learning and teaching.

Assessment

  1. Assess the capability of ICT to support pupils’ learning.
