What is e-learning?
e-Learning (electronic learning) is a broad term where technology is used to deliver learning and training programmes. It is typically used to describe CD-ROMs, the Internet, Intranet, and wireless and mobile learning.
Why should I use it? (Benefits)
You can access e-learning at any time and at any location when the learning is needed. You can dip in and out of the e-learning module and focus on the topics that are of most use to you without having to go through the complete course. Travel to training venues is no longer required, saving you time.e-Learning can quickly deliver a message, meaning you have speedy access to the latest information and learning resources. You can refer back to the content at any time.
How do I know the content will be right for me?
We have consistently received positive feedback for our e-learning products. For example in one e-learning module, 100% of learners giving feedback felt the content was relevant to them.
Where can I find it / How do I get on it?
The Learning Zone is the portal for all learning for Hampshire County Council, and all existing e-learning products can be accessed from there. All e-learning courses are currently only available on Hampshire County Council’s intranet. (You need an IT2000 ID to log on to this)
How much will it cost to do an e-learning module?
Many are free! Clients commissioning e-learning products pays a one off fee, based on our development time. Alternatively, an e-learning module may be part of a face-to-face course, either as pre-learning or follow up.
Is it assessed? Will it go on my record?
All e-learning products will automatically log your progress, and will eventually link into your SAP record. If an e-learning product incorporates a test, it will indicate to you that your pass marks will be logged.
Where can I do an e-learning module?
From home (via dialup or a Hantsnet Passport), at your desk, wherever there is access to the IT2000 network. We can also offer the loan of a small number of stand-alone tablet PCs if you can’t access the network.
How long will it take me to complete an e-learning module?
e-Learning products vary in length, but our current e-learning products need between 15 and 30 minutes. The time recommended is indicated before you start the course. Many courses offer links to extra information, websites and case studies, which you can explore in addition to the main e-learning module. When you do this and how long you spend is up to you.
Do I have to be an IT expert to complete an e-learning module?
No! Our e-learning products are designed to be user friendly. Even first time users give us feedback about how clear and easy to use they are. If you have ever visited a website (like this one!) or sent an email, then you can complete an e-learning course.
Here are some typical comments from users:
“It was explained in plain English so I was able to understand everything’’
“This is the first time I have used this e-learning facility and I am very impressed with it’’
“Well constructed, should be ok for even someone with basic IT skills’’
“I have found this e-learning module very easy to use”
What support is there if I can’t get it to work?
Our vision is to make the learning as simple and user-friendly as possible. The layout is designed to be clear and intuitive. Once you start the e-learning module, you will find that the layout and instructions support you through the process. If you have difficulty in accessing a course, contact us at learning.centre@hants.gov.uk, and we will be happy to help.
What do you do with users’ feedback?
Quite simply, your comments influence the development of future e-learning products, and, because e-learning is a constantly updatable resource, your feedback could also have Immediate impact. We really value your feedback and we use it to ensure we are reaching learners in terms of content and format.
Does this mean I can’t go on face-to-face courses anymore?
You will still be able to go on face-to-face courses. e-Learning isn’t designed to replace all other training, but to aid other learning interventions and to provide additional support to you as a learner. In fact e-learning may form a part of a face-to-face course you attend.
