Introduction to Learning Disabilities e-Learning

This e-learning programme has been designed as a resource tool to support new staff entering the Learning Disability service.
We hope you find the programme informative and helpful as you start your career in supporting service user with a Learning Disability. At the end of the programme are web links to external organisations that can offer additional learning opportunities for your own development These can be accessed as part of the learning programme or as an additional learning resource in the future.
At the end of the programme is an evaluation form. It would be appreciated if you could take time to complete this and provide constructive feedback about the programme to enable us to improve the service for future staff.
Duration
The programme will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
Course Aims
To raise awareness and develop knowledge of "Learning Disabilities" for staff supporting service users, in order that the aims of the service can be delivered.
Learning Outcomes
Staff will be able to:
Identify social history and philosophies of care that have helped shape current service delivery
Describe the term Learning Disability
Understand and explain the importance of supporting each service user as an individual
Identify the effects of being labelled as having a Learning Disability on the individual
Explain how a Learning Disability can be acquired

Visits and progression through the course are tracked so that training via e-learning can be measured for effectiveness and provide a log as part of individual performance development.
