Hampshire IT cannot support all mobile devices, but the information on this page will help you with using the most commonly used.
More people are using tablets and smartphones for mobile computing, enabling them to work more flexibly.
However, using mobile devices to access our existing infrastructure can open up new challenges for Hampshire County Council, who have strict policies on the use of this type of device.
Using mobile devices
Due to the wide variety of available mobile devices, Hampshire IT cannot support all devices, but guidance and advice can be given for the most commonly used.

Security for devices
Lost or stolen tablets and phones pose a risk of sensitive and confidential information being accessed or intercepted by third parties.
It is vital that individuals take personal responsibility to protect their devices, including adding a security key-code to help prevent unlawful access.
Which devices are compatible?
All versions of Apple’s iPad and tablets running Android. Blackberry-branded devices are not supported.
How do I lock my tablet or smartphone?
You will need to consult your user manual or contact your provider for information on setting up 'auo-lock'.
Why does my tablet/smartphone need to be locked?
This is to ensure that Council information is protected and is also recommended for all personal devices to protect your own data from misuse or fraud. Lost or stolen tablets pose a risk of sensitive and confidential information being accessed or intercepted by third parties. It is therefore vital that individuals take personal responsibility to protect their devices, including adding a security key-code to help prevent unlawful access.
A mandatory requirement of using the Hantsnet Mobile Service is that you must turn on the Passcode Lock and set your phone to auto-lock within 10 minutes of inactivity.
How do I receive my emails on my tablet or smartphone?
If you have an Office 365 or Hantsnet account you can apply for access to the Hantsnet Mobile Service. Once access has been authorised, complete the set-up steps outlined in Learn.IT.
I have been emailed an attachment, why can't I open it on my tablet?
Some tablets will not have the software required to open the same range of documents which can be created on a PC or in Hantsnet. You may need to install additional software to view attachments, however, due to the limitations of hardware and screen sizes, be aware that some formatting may not be kept.
How do I print from my tablet?
You cannot print from your tablet directly to a Printsmart device. Any files must be first be transferred to Hantsnet and printed from there.
Why can't I connect to the 3G Network?
The 3G network is supplied and maintained by a variety of mobile telephone providers in the UK and outside of the control of HCC. Where possible, connecting your tablet or smartphone to a wireless network will normally provide a faster connection.
How and where do I connect to the wireless network?
The corporate wireless network covers a great deal of the Castle complex, including the Council Chambers, EII North, West and Podium, however due to the layout and size of the council offices it is not possible to offer wireless access in all offices. I can't access a specific webpage – why is it blocked?
Access to the internet is filtered to all users on Hampshire’s network, regardless of the device used. If you believe that a webpage has been inappropriately blocked, you can report this to the Helpdesk on 01962 847000.
My device has been damaged or broken – how do I fix it?
Managed devices supplied by Hampshire IT should be reported to the Helpdesk on 01962 847000.
Personal devices, purchased independently or by an individual, may be covered by a manufacturers warranty but will not usually be supported by the Helpdesk.
My tablet/smartphone has been lost or stolen
Report this immediately to the Helpdesk on 01962 847000. The connection to your Hantsnet account will be stopped to help prevent any inappropriate access to any sensitive or confidential information.
