Hantsnet Passport

Person working at home

Hantsnet Passport is used to access an existing Hantsnet account from your home PC or a remote site. This requires a suitable computer with an internet connection (broadband recommended).

When logged in, a user can make use of all the features of Hantsnet they enjoy when in the office such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, access to the I:drive and their F:drive. You cannot access any software or files stored on a local office PC.

An authentication token and a unique PIN ensures the connection to your Hantsnet account is secure.

This guidance covers information on:

See the service catalogue on Hantsnet for information about getting access to Hantsnet Passport.

Service updates

Passport is now enabled to work with:
  • Windows 7 - Passport has been upgraded to work with Windows 7 but you may see some additional screens the first time you log in - see Windows 7 for help.
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, 8 & 9 - some settings must be changed on your computer, see Internet Explorer 7/8.& 9.
  • Windows Vista - see Windows Vista - first log in and Troubleshooting with Windows Vista.
  • Printing at home (see Printing page).
Please Note:
  • Google Chrome Beta cannot currently be used with Passport, but we are working with the suppliers to update this.
  • Although Firefox is not currently supported by IT for use with Passport, there are instructions available for setting up Firefox which should work for most users - see set up Firefox for Passport.
  • Passport on Apple Macs is not supported, we do however have guidelines for Mac users to see if you can get Passport working, but they are not guaranteed to work for every Apple Mac setup.
  • With the single sign on process you cannot share passport tokens because the token is unique to each individual user ID. Staff who wish to access Hantsnet remotely will need to request the Hantsnet Passport service through their normal channels.
  • The use of Passport at home will use resources and does download information in a similar way to any other form of web browsing - if you have limited download capacity on your broadband contract and you work for extended lengths of time on Passport, it may cost extra on your contract which you will not be able to reclaim (as Hampshire do not require that you work at home). If this is the case, you may want to consider reviewing the type of broadband access you have if you want to work at home via Passport.
