Setting up your PC for Passport

If you want to set up a tablet for Passport, see the separate instructions.

Allow an hour to set up your PC for Passport - it is straightforward for most people but the length of time will vary from user to user, depending on the configuration of your PC.

Red bullet point PRINT friendly . . . when you print this page all of the tabs will print.

Set up instructions

Blocks

Hantsnet Passport will only work with certain combinations of operating system and browsers.

The list below shows the combinations that work - click on any item in the list to open a HantsFile document containing set up instructions which can be printed (you will need a Hantsnet ID and password to open documents).

For Mac users, there are some guidelines - if you cannot get your Mac working with Passport, please raise a call with the Help Desk who will try to resolve your issue.

Which operating system and browser do I have?

Take a look at the information on the What's my operating system & browser? webpage.

Other settings...

In addition to the set up instructions, there are additional settings that you need to update if you use any of the following:

Firewalls

Set 'learn mode' to enabled when you first log in - refer to online support information for your firewall software website

Google toolbar

Change pop up blocker settings to allow Hantsnet pop ups

Linux

Passport will not work with the “Open JDK” version of Java (the connection center window will open, but it will not load and show the green status icon) - you need to install the latest version of the official Sun Microsystems Java. After installing Java, you may need to manually install the Java Plugin for Mozilla Firefox by creating a link in the Firefox “plugins” directory (instructions for this are available from the Java download site).

You may need to disable the “IcedTea” Java plugin so that the “Sun Java” plugin is used.

Pop up blockers

Change pop up blocker settings to allow Hantsnet pop ups.

Yahoo toolbar
