iPhone

The iPhone is one of the leading 'smartphones', combining the features of an advanced mobile phone handset with powerful internet and connectivity features.

With the Hantsnet Mobile Service, Hantsnet or OWL users who own their own iPhone can request access to their work email, contacts and calendar on their iPhone.

The tabs below show how to update security and phone settings on the iPhone to connect to the Hantsnet Mobile Service.

Security

Security settings

A mandatory requirement of using the Hantsnet Mobile Service is that you must turn on the Passcode Lock and set your phone to auto-lock within 10 minutes of inactivity.

This is to ensure that Council information is protected and is also recommended for all personal devices to protect your own data from misuse or fraud.

To set Passcode

  1. Tap Settings

  2. Tap General

  3. Tap  Passcode Lock

  4. Tap Turn Passcode On

  5. Enter your Passcode and confirm it, you will be returned to the Passcode Lock screen

  6. Tap Require Passcode and select Immediately

  7. Set Erase Data to ON.

You can also use this screen to change a Passcode if you believe the code has been revealed to anyone.

To set Auto-Lock

  1. Tap Settings

  2. Tap General

  3. Tap Auto-Lock

  4. Select one of the options (5 minutes is the minimum).

Remember...

Never give your username, password or any of the server connection information to anyone including other staff or IT Service. IT Services will never ask for this information.

This information must never be entered anywhere other than your device local setup. You must configure your device so that compatible devices require you to enter a PIN before you can continue to use the device.

 

iPhone settings

To connect to the Hantsnet Mobile Service you will need to update a number of settings on your phone.

The information you require for the settings will be emailed to you once your request for the service has been accepted.

  1. Tap Settings then Mail, Contacts, Calendars

  2. Tap Add Account then Exchange

  3. The Exchange screen is displayed (see screenshot) complete as follows:
    - Email, enter your full email address (eg simon.smith@hants.gov.uk)
    - Password, enter your Hantsnet Password (remember it is case sensitive)
    - Description, type a short description for the account ie Work email (optional)

  4. Click Next

  5. Enter the following information:
    - Server, enter the server name provided in email
    - Domain, type in the information provided in email
    - Username, enter your Hantsnet ID (eg itxxss)

  6. Click Next

  7. Choose which content you would like to synchronise (Mail, Contacts, and Calendars), tap Save when finished.

 

Email

Email on iPhone

Once your phone is set up to synchronise with Microsoft Exchange, simply tap on Mail on your home screen to view your email messages.

If you have more than one mail account set up on your phone (you may have your phone also set up for your personal email account) you will have a choice of which email account you want to view.

Once you have selected your work mail account you can:

  • tap on an item to read the full message and then delete or reply

  • tap on the 'new mail' symbol at the bottom right of the screen to open a new blank message and then use the on-screen keyboard to compose your email.

Lightbulb Tip: Turn the phone to the landscape position to get a larger keyboard.

Change mail settings

  1. Tap Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars

  2. Tap on your work mail account

  3. Details of your mail account will be displayed, here you can:
    - switch on or off mail, contacts, calendars and reminders
    - change the number of mail days that you want to synchronise
    - select which mail folders you want pushed to your phone.

If you need to change any general mail settings such as font size, signature etc, tap Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars and scroll down to the Mail section.

Change your default mail account

If you want the mail you view and send to always default to your work mail account:

  1. Tap Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars

  2. Scroll down the screen and tap Default Account, select your work mail account.

 

Calendar

Calendar on iPhone

You can see a very useful view of your work calendar on your iPhone as a List, Day (see right) or Month view.

  • Tap on an entry to see the full details of attendees, location, timing and any notes.

  • Tap on the '+ symbol' to add a new appointment.

  • You can also respond to a calendar invitation (ie 'Accept', 'Maybe' or 'Decline').

 

Contacts

If you switch on the Contacts option for your work mail account you will be given two options regarding your contacts:

  • Keep on My iPhone - keep all of your personal contacts that you already have on your phone as well as your work contacts

  • Delete - delete all of your personal contacts on your phone and replace with your work contact.

If you are unsure, chose Cancel.

Be very careful before taking the Delete option as you will remove all of the contacts that you already have on your phone.

Update Contact Settings

  1. Tap Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars

  2. Tap on your work mail account

  3. Tap on the ON/OFF button - you will receive a warning message about deleting contacts from your phone.

 

Network

If you are using a personal iPhone and a corporate SIM card, you will need to change your data settings. To do this:

Cellular settings

1. From the main screen of your iPhone, tap Settings then Cellular

2. Tap Cellular Data Network

On the Cellular Data screen there 3 sections

  • Cellular Data - tap APN and change idata.o2.co.uk to Internet

    • Username - web

    • Password - web

  • Visual Voicemail – do not change (only used with pay monthly tariff)

  • MMS - tap APN and change idata.o2.co.uk to wap.vodaphone.co.uk

    • Username - wap

    • Password - wap

    • MMSC - http://mms.vodaphone.co.uk/servlets/mms/

    • MMS Proxy - 212.183.137.012

For o2 Settings

  • Cellular Data - tap APN and change idata.o2.co.uk to mobile.o2.co.uk (o2 needs to be written with a letter o, not a zero). You don’t need to change the username and password

  • Visual Voicemail – do not change (only used with pay monthly tariff)

  • MMS - tap APN and change idata.o2.co.uk to wap.o2.co.uk (‘o2’ needs to be written with a letter ‘o’, not a zero). You don’t need to change the username and password

3. Turn your iPhone off and on again (NB this is more than turning the screen off and on)

To turn the phone off and on, you need to:
- hold down the on/off button (on the top of the phone)
- wait for the 'slide to power off' message and slide the on-screen button to fully turn off the phone
- hold down the on/off button again to turn the phone on and enter your Passcode.
