Reading Well Books on Prescription
Reading Well Books on Prescription helps people manage their own health and well-being through recommended self-help books. Because everything changes when we read.
The national Reading Well Books on Prescription scheme for England is delivered by The Reading Agency and the Society of Chief Librarians with funding from Arts Council England.
Hampshire Libraries are part of this national scheme. It offers a range of expert endorsed self-help books which have proven value in helping people who suffer from common mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, anger and panic attacks. Books can work well either on their own or in conjunction with other forms of treatment.
The books on the booklist can be found in the Health section of libraries and can be borrowed by any adult.
Your doctor or a mental health professional may prescribe a book for you to borrow from the library. In this case you can collect it from any Hampshire library. If the recommended book is not immediately available we will get it for you, free of charge, as soon as possible. You’ll need to be a member of the library to borrow books. Joining the library is quick, easy and free. Borrower details and book loans are treated as strictly confidential.
