The Guardian Children's Fiction Prize was founded in 1967. Recent winners include Philip Pullman, Jacqueline Wilson and Mark Haddon.

Blue Peter Book Awards
Varjak Paw by S.F.Said has been voted Blue Peter Book of the Year 2007.
Hampshire Illustrated Book Award 2007
This year the award has been won by Colin Thompson for Castles

Hampshire Book Award
An annual award for the best paperback fiction title published in the previous year for the 11-14 age group.

The Carnegie Medal
The Carnegie Medal is awarded by children's librarians for an outstanding book for children and young people.It was first awarded in 1936 to Arthur Ransome for Pigeon Post.

The Kate Greenaway medal
The Kate Greenaway medal is awarded by children's librarians for an outstanding book in terms of illustration for children and young people. It was first awarded in 1956.
The current Children's Laureate is Michael Rosen. The appointment of a Children's Laureate recognises the important role of exceptional children's authors and illustrators in creating future readers and is awarded every 2 years.
