Books into films
Did you know many of the most popular films are based on books?
Last year we had 'Bridge to Terabithia' based on the book by Katherine Paterson, 'The Golden Compass' based on the award winning novel 'Northern Lights' by Phillip Pullman, and of course the fifth in the Harry Potter series 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'.
The latest 'book into film' is ‘Spiderwick’ based on the novels by Holly Black and Tony diTerlizzi. If you enjoyed the film, why not start the series of fantasy books with the first title ‘The Field Guide’.
Cornelia Funke is another popular fantasy writer. Her novel ‘The Thief Lord’ was made into a film a couple of years ago, and now it’s the turn of ‘Inkheart’ which will be the half-term release in October.
Also due out this year is the second Narnia film, Prince Caspian, in which the four Pevensie children return to Narnia to help a young prince in his struggle for the throne against his corrupt uncle King
Other films being worked on at the moment are one based on the boy detective TinTin, who first appeared in comic strip form in 1929, and a film of the book published last year – ‘Tunnels’- by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams.
