A wide range of adult and community learning courses are available in venues across Hampshire. Many libraries offer extensive programmes of classes and workshops throughout the year.

How to Book

You can book and pay for your place at the library and complete an Enrolment Form or alternatively telephone the library’s booking line number (see Find a course brochures). Payment must be made at the time of booking and can be made over the phone at most branches with the exception of courses at Courtmoor School and Christ Church Hall which can be made at Fleet Library.

Course Discounts available

Hampshire Learning supports the Learning in Libraries programme. Fee remission may be available for learners in receipt of certain benefits up to 50% and for those aged 60 or over on 1 August 2012 are entitled to 25% discount on the course fees on most courses. Supporting evidence must be provided. Please check at the time of enrolment.

Course Refund policy

Full refunds can only be given 4 weeks before a course starts. No refunds will normally be made if a learner withdraws from a course less than 7 days before the start of the course.

No refunds once a course starts unless in exceptional circumstances to be agreed with the Area Learning Coordinator The Learning in Libraries team reserves the right to cancel courses for which learners have enrolled – full refunds will be given in this case.

Computers and IT

A variety of courses are available in many libraries across Hampshire. The selection includes specific courses aimed at improving employment potential as well as hobbies such as photography and family history. Our beginners’ courses are also very popular; delivered with lots of support at a measured pace these courses have proven effective even for the most terrified learner.

IT Classes for Visually Impaired People

Some libraries run computer classes for visually impaired people using Supernova and Guide software with touch typing on offer as well. The classes are run by a specialist tutor with volunteers on hand for one-to-one support. The classes are small and cater for both beginners and improvers and are tailored to the needs of the individual student.

The Learning in Libraries programme continues to grow and thrive with more libraries than ever offering high quality informal learning in small sociable groups. Our comfortable and versatile spaces allow a range of clubs and events to complement the learning on offer locally – and of course our extensive selection of books and other media are also available to support the learner in their studies.

Learning opportunities are supported by funding from Hampshire Learning who are also responsible for the quality management and continuing improvement of the programme on offer.

The funding currently supports adult learners attending a variety of courses in order to:

gain knowledge and skills and develop interests and confidence
support their family’s learning
become active in their neighbourhoods and communities
gain relevant qualifications
prepare for employment
