Varied comments, which included appreciation that Chandlers Ford’s hours will remain unchanged. Others suggested that Chandler’s Ford hours should be reduced in order that Eastleigh could have longer hours and that late nights are very quiet and therefore not required. There were also comments about noise in the library.

Eastleigh Library

Eastleigh is designated a large library.

From original proposed change: 74% of disagrees wanted to retain the Monday opening i.e. daily sessions except for Sundays. 57% of disagrees suggested this was done by opening later than 9am each day. Eastleigh Borough Council also expressed concern about closing on Mondays.

From revised proposals: although there was a majority in agreement with the alternative proposal 36% still disagreed. Of these 51% wanted an opening earlier than 10 am and 36% wanted 9.30 but only one suggested closing later than 5

Comments

Based on the feedback received the library will open at 9.30 instead of 10.00 but will close at 4 on Saturdays instead of 5 thereby reducing the total number of hours cut.  The shortfall in savings will be made through efficiencies identified as part of the consultation.

Fair Oak Library

Fair Oak is designated as a neighbourhood library.
No proposed changes.

Pleased that the hours will not change, although one comment suggested that the late night was not required.

Netley Library

90% of disagrees wanted to keep a late night. There were no positive comments about the plan to open on Monday, other than from Eastleigh Borough Council.

The current opening hours will be retained.  The proposed changes to the  opening hours were designed to maintain accessibility for customers in conjunction with changes to hours in other libraries in the area.  However now  Hedge End and West End will remain unchanged there is no justification to alter the pattern of opening at Netley. Some other efficiencies have been identified as part of this consultation.

Hedge End Library

Hedge End is designated as a medium library.

80% agreed with the proposals. Comments from the disagrees varied from keep open Wednesday (2), open for longer, e.g. more late nights, later on Saturday (9), keep the current hours (3). However the Town Council and Borough Council were unhappy with the proposals.

Comments

Following discussions with LIS on the possibility of increasing opening hours through installing self service to release staff time and using volunteers, Hedge End Town Council has offered to contribute to the cost of installing self service technology. Therefore there will be no change to opening hours as part of the current review.

West End Library

West End is designated as a neighbourhood library.

Feedback

54% of those disagreeing wanted the library to stay open on Thursdays and 25% of disagrees wanted to stay open on Friday mornings to correspond with activities held in the community centre.  The Parish Council and Borough Council were also opposed to the changes due to the funding opportunity in 2012 to increase the library floor space using developers contributions.
