Summer Reading Challenge
What is the Summer Reading Challenge?
Every year, around 26,000 children in Hampshire take part in the national Summer Reading Challenge, which is run by a charity called the Reading Agency. Every year there is a different theme – in 2013 it was ‘Creepy House’. The aim of the challenge is to get children aged 4 to 11 to read six books from their local library during the summer holidays. It is all free and the children collect fun materials along the way.
The Reading Agency now run a Summer Reading Challenge website for children that is available throughout the year. It has competitions and book recommendations, and children can rate books and add reviews. Everything is closely monitored by the Reading Agency, so it is completely safe for children and will encourage them to not only read more, but find ideas for new authors and titles.
