Music recommendations for July

Taylor Swift “Fearless”
This Country singer has become extremely popular in the mainstream (last year she was the biggest selling artist in the US) and her latest album is very heavily reserved in libraries. She writes her own material and is influenced by Patsy Cline, Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks.

Joe Bonamassa “The Ballad of John Henry”
Highly renowned Blues artist. The title track of this his 7th studio album is dedicated to the legendary iconic figure responsible for building the US railroads. The album features 6 of his own tracks plus 6 covers including Tom Waits’ “Jockey Full of Bourbon” and Sam Brown’s “Stop”.

Melody Gardot “My One and Only Thrill”
Second album from this very popular Jazz singer from Pennsylvania. She became involved in music as part of her therapy following a very bad car accident. Her style is likened to the great female jazz singers of the 40s and 50s.

U2 “No Line on the Horizon”
Always an immensely popular band this is their 12th studio album. The usual political approach to lyrics is still there. Possibly their best according to Q. Has been likened to their Zooropa album.

Oumou Sangare “Seya”
Very positively reviewed album by this Malian singer. Coming after a 5 year break from the music scene during which amongst other things she became a UN ambassador. Many tracks having a political message the album features more than 50 other musicians but she is not overshadowed.
